Meet the Trustees

 

Ngati Kea - Ngati Tuara

Born in Horohoro and one of the longest serving trustees on the current board, Eru brings years of experience and passion to the organisation. As one of the negotiators with the former Nga Kaihautu, he was instrumental in securing the Agreement which was signed in 2009. He also serves on the Rotorua Lakes District Health Board as the Pou Herenga and keeps busy with the affairs of Ngati Kea Ngati Tuara

 

 

 

 

Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao

Wi Keepa Te Rangipuawhe Maika has had a stellar career in what was then the Labour Department for more than 40 years. This included stints in Wellington, Napier, Auckland, Wellington, Timaru and Lower Hutt before returning to Rotorua in 1988, as Area General Manager. He also maintained a strong commitment to his marae and iwi, while involving himself in regional and national Maori organisations. In recognition for his work for the Maori community he was awarded to the Queen's Service Order in 2007.

 

 

 

Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao

Victoria brings advocacy, commercial and leadership skills honed during a professional career. She is a solicitor and previously worked for Ernst & Young as executive director of the advisory team. She also has previous experience as a trustee and experience in the education, health, banking and telecommunications industries. Victoria is committed to developing the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of Maori. She is involved in the management of whanau land holdings and her interests include gardening, cooking and looking after her whanau.

 

 

 

Ngati Ngararanui

Wallace Haumaha's position as the country's top Maori Police Officer hasn't hindered a lifetime of dedication to his Te Arawa and Ngararanui people. He has had an outstanding career as a teacher, a frontline police officer and as a detective. Currently he is Police National Manager, Maori, Pacific and Ethnic Services. He was awarded the Queen's Service Medal in 1996 for services to the community. In 2000 he was awarded the Police Commissioner's Commendation for establishing the first Memorandum of Understanding signed between police and 14 major iwi groups in the Bay of Plenty District. In 2002 he graduated from Waikato University with a Masters in Business Administration with Distinction.

 

Ngati Rongomai

A 15-year veteran of the former Te Arawa Maori Trust Board, Ruka Hughes has been involved in community programmes, including the Community Law Centre, as Maori Adviser to Police, Safer Communities, Te Arawa Standing Committee and the Okataina Scenic Reserve Board. He has more than 20 years' experience in telecommunications. In 2005 Mr Hughes helped coordinate the first tertiary recognised training programme for Maori Wardens, a service he went on to join the following year and to which he was seconded as a councillor in 2007.

 

 

Ngati Tarawhai

 Manu offers extensive experience in business management and administration. He is secretary-treasurer and a trustee for Ngati Tarawhai Iwi Trust. Manu’s other iwi and community roles include secretary and trustee for Waikohatu Marae, Ngati Tarawhai iwi representative on Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust Board, member of Rotorua Police Maori Advisory Board and life member of TIASA Union

 

 

 

Ngati Tuteniu

Dennis offers business management skills and has a passion for the arts. He has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Bachelor of Education and a Diploma in Business Management. He was a member of the Nga Kaihautu/Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa team which negotiated claims with the Office of Treaty Negotiations between 2005-06. Dennis is of Samoan descent on his father’s side and of Maori heritage on his mother’s and hails from Te Kahika, Te Puke.

 

 

 

Ngati Te Rorooterangi

Clark brings a business and IT background to the board. He is currently with the Rotorua District Council as the IS Solutions Manager having worked there previously as a Senior Business Analyst and in Corporate Data . He is actively involved with all his marae. He is currently chairman of Owhata marae in Rotorua

 

 

 

 

Ngati Uenukukopako

Donna provides a wealth of frontline business experience. Donna and Kerry own and operate T.K. Enterprises, which manufactures Maori wood carvings. Donna is passionate about addressing social, economic, cultural and environmental issues that affect Ngati Uenukukopako. She is Ngati Uenukukopako Iwi Trust treasurer and trustee, a Ruamata Marae trustee, Pikirangi Marae secretary/treasurer and is a trustee and administrator of Ngawhika Pukehina M1B3 Trust. Donna’s interests include Maori arts and crafts; she loves spending time with whanau and is an expert on their whakapapa.

 

 

Ngati Tura - Ngati Te Ngakau

Takarei has more than 25 years’ experience in the banking industry, including branch management and investment advisory roles. He has a Diploma in Financial Planning. In his current career he assists job seekers to find paid employment, a position he has held for the past 13 years. Takarei is treasurer for the Ngati Tura Ngati Te Ngakau Hapu Trust and has held that position since 2006. He is a trustee for Tarukenga Marae, treasurer for the Rotorua Maori Golfers Association and past executive committee member of Whakarewarewa Rugby Community Sports Inc. He is devoted to his family and his hobbies include being an avid rugby follower and a keen golfer.

 

 

Ngati Pikiao

Davey grew up at Tapuaeharuru and has lived there all his life. He is dedicated to establishing a sound economic foundation for Ngati Pikiao. He has served on Ngati Pikiao Iwi Trust previously, has experience in the agriculture sector and helps manage several hapu land blocks. He is passionate about meeting the social and economic needs of his people. Davey’s community involvement includes assisting at Te Kura O Te Rotoiti and the Rotoiti Rugby Club.

 

 

 

Ngati Pikiao

William is semi-retired after a career as a fitter, welder and boilermaker. He has more than 20 years’ experience as trustee on Te Arawa Lakes Trust (formerly Te Arawa Maori Trust Board) and is involved with several land trusts and incorporations. He has a wide knowledge of many industries, including agriculture, forestry and fishing. His interests are rugby, rugby league, fishing and, of course, his whanau. William’s community involvement includes chairman of the Rotoiti Sports and Community Association, chairman of Te Arawa Rugby League and Marae trustee for Taurua and Tapuaekura / Rakeiao. William has served for 15 years on Te Runanga o Ngati Pikiao and is a strong supporter of Education, our Kura Kaupapa and Kohanga Reo

 

Ngati Pikiao

Taria has a strong commercial background and has worked as a management consultant for Fletcher Challenge and Ernst & Young (Canada). Taria has a business degree from Waikato University, was runner-up in the NZIM Young Executive of the Year and was awarded an iwi scholarship to study at Melbourne University. More recently, Taria has been involved in Maori development programmes, such as the Te Arawa Economic and Social Profile and the Te Arawa Emerging Leaders Programme. Taria has experience at regional, national and international levels, having contributed to the Maori Economic Taskforce and attended United Nations forums in New York and Beijing

 

Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao

Warwick is a straight-talking Senior Sergeant now in Pukekohe, having risen through the police ranks. He is an advocate of communicating with young Maori in his work to ensure they fulfil their potential. Warwick has experience in land trust administration and serves on the management committee for Haparangi A4. He and his whanau are committed to the maintenance of Whakarewarewa Village. He is heavily involved in the community. Warwick and his wife, Leanne Kingi Morehu, led the winning Te Whanau Apanui team in the 2005 Matatini Kapa Haka competition. He loves his sport, is a Bay of Plenty Rugby Union scrummaging coach and enjoys fishing and hunting.

 

Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa

Of Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa descent, with connections to Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Whakaue, Tuhourangi, Wahiao and also affiliated to Tuwharetoa and Tainui. Born in Reporoa and grew up in Poneke. Her and partner of 35 years, Peter have lived in Reporoa the past 30 years with their 3 children and 5 mokopuna.Iwi representative and Trustee on Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa Runanga Trust.Has been actively involved with the Runanga for 20 years with the last 11 years as Administrator Co-coordinator for Koroua, Kuia Early Intervention Program. Most recent position is as the Communications coordinator. A current Trustee on four land Trusts; (Punawhakaata, Waimahana, Te Toke Incorporated, and Paeroa East). Served a number of years as a committee member with Waimahana & Mangahoanga Marae, Te Kohanga Reo, Golf Club and more recently Reporoa Rugby League.Her main goal is to support the Ngati Tahu-Ngati Whaoa Runanga Trust in developing economic, social, cultural and commercial growth on behalf of the Iwi.

 

Note: From time to time each of the Affiliates Trusts will hold their election of Trustees. Following this a trustee may retire or be replaced. Also the Affiliate Trust representative(s) on the Board may be replaced or rotated. The representation as shown on this page will only change once Te Pumautanga O Te Arawa has been formally notified by the Affiliate Trust.
